If you need to dispute medical debt information on your Equifax credit report because the debt is being paid by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), you'll need to submit certain documentation.
Specifically, you'll need to provide:
- A "Notification to Veteran" from the Department of Veterans Affairs saying the department is assuming liability for all or part of your medical debt; or
- Documentation showing that the Department of Veterans Affairs is in the process of making payment for the medical debt.
In addition, you'll need to provide documents to verify your identity. Read more about acceptable documents here.
If a spouse or third party would like to dispute the medical debt on your behalf, a valid Power of Attorney must be provided with the VA documentation.
Copies of your documents must be provided by mail to Equifax at the address below. Please include a letter stating you are disputing medical debt on your Equifax credit report that is being paid by the VA along with your supporting documents.
