A Win-Win: Introducing the New NCTUE Consumer Portal
Consumers can now take greater control of their credit information managed by the National Consumer Telecom & Utilities Exchange (NCTUE®) through a newly launched NCTUE consumer portal.
Developed by Equifax, which has managed the database since its start in 1997 on behalf of NCTUE and its member companies, the user-friendly portal gives consumers direct online access to their credit information contained within the NCTUE database, helping to reduce customer service inquiries for NCTUE members while providing a better experience for their consumers.
How does the new consumer portal help?
Previously, when consumers had questions about their NCTUE credit information, they either contacted their service provider (i.e., an NCTUE member who contributes data) via phone, fax, email, or sometimes even snail mail. The service provider would respond to the request, often redirecting the consumer to NCTUE.
The new NCTUE consumer portal simplifies this process by giving consumers direct, online access to their NCTUE credit information.
NCTUE members can improve service levels and offer better, more efficient experiences by directing consumers to the new NCTUE self-service online portal dedicated to NCTUE data. In turn, this can help ease overall customer support volumes. It also promotes faster issue resolution by providing on-demand services that are accessible online, 24/7, from practically any device with internet access.
Services available via the NCTUE consumer portal
The new portal is purpose-built to provide fast, simple, and direct access to the important information and services consumers need. Below is a list of available services.
-
Free NCTUE credit report. Consumers can get a free copy of their NCTUE credit report, all of their account payment history data within the database, and report details.
-
Create fraud alerts. Consumers can add a fraud alert to their NCTUE data file. This encourages service providers to take extra steps to verify the consumer’s identity. Likewise, those engaged in active military duty can place an active duty alert on their NCTUE file.
-
Credit report freeze. Consumers wanting to block access to their credit report can place a security freeze on their NCTUE credit report. This free service also includes the ability to temporarily remove a report freeze.
-
Submit a dispute. Consumers who believe information in their NCTUE report is inaccurate can submit a dispute to initiate an investigation. NCTUE will work directly with the provider to verify the information and update the status of the disputed information or delete the item from the consumer’s NCTUE report, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
Turnaround times for most services are immediate. NCTUE data reports are available online in minutes, enabling consumers to see their report details in near real time. Consumer-initiated fraud alerts and report freeze options can, in many cases, also take effect in near real time.
Consumers can submit a dispute in real time; however, turnaround times for the investigation may take up to 30 days.
