What is alias information?

Aliases are other names you go by or have gone by in the past - for example a maiden name.

We let lenders know about these so that they can see your full credit history, rather than just the one relating to the name you've used for that particular application.

If you change your name, let your creditors know your new name and put your former name as an alias on any new credit applications you make. This will help lenders find your full credit history.

Where does alias information come from?

We get this information in two ways - either lenders let us know their customer has changed their name, or someone applying for a credit report tells us the names they've gone by before.

You should include all your aliases on your applications for credit to help us make the right information available to the lender.

Forever.

Will my spouse's name and information appear on my report?

You and your partner will have separate credit reports. We keep records on individual UK residents only, rather than joint reports for partners. Only accounts that are in both names will show on both reports. If you're a co-signer for someone else, their name will be on your report.

What if someone else is on my credit file?

If there's information on your report about someone you have no financial connection with, we'll look into this for you.

Choose the Ask a question tab and click on Someone else is on my file. Then choose from the drop-down categories and we'll investigate.
